Training

Training in the social therapeutic approach is available at the East Side Institute for Group and Short Term Psychotherapy.

The Institute offers clinical training weekends led by Christine LaCerva and other Institute faculty. Participants go through an intensive learning experience in which they explore the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of social therapy. An integral part of the weekend training is “Therapy Play!,” a series of performance exercises in which trainees experiment with the practice of social therapeutic method. They are led through a series of therapy games in which they play the roles of therapist, patient, group leader and supervisor. This multi-faceted performance experience deepens the capacity of the trainee to take risks, and explore a new conception and practice of what a developmental group therapy is.
